As a photographer who enjoys taking pictures of people the most, I’m fascinated by the human body. So much emotion can be shown just from the way a model poses, from the bend of his head to the arch of his back. Body language was a central part of a recent photoshoot with my friend Daniel. Daniel, who played the lead for Footloose the musical at my school, had gained a considerable amount of muscle from dancing and training for several months. He was in excellent shape and I grabbed at the opportunity to photograph him.

While bright sunlight can bring with it several potential problems, it is not impossible to take great photographs on sunny days. Keep the four tips below in mind when shooting on a bright day and you’ll be sure to have better shots.

Today’s inspirational eye candy is from Love magazine and lensed by Mert and Marcus. What I love about this series of eight fashion portraits is the combination of whimsical clothing and style undercut by somber dark undertones . The models are bright, beautiful and delicate, yet we see tragedy in their expression, tears stream down their faces and their steely gazes speak of loss and pain.

Today, the dumbfounding and abrupt news of Steve Jobs death has taken the web by storm. I had just arrived home and when my younger brother told me about it, I honestly thought he was joking. I knew that Jobs had stepped down recently, but it never occurred to me health reasons caused him to do it.

What Are Light Leaks?
Light leaks occur when light outside the camera body manages to slip into the camera’s usually light-tight chamber. This light causes over exposure on certain areas of the film and the resulting picture will have sections of glowing, diffuse light. While some photographers consider this a “mistake”, it can actually become an aesthetically pleasing effect for your photograph.
This tutorial will show you an easy way to recreate the light leak effect in Photoshop – with much more precision than accidentally creating it!

Poverty is a worldwide epidemic. It has no face, age, ethnicity or religion. And while it isn’t easy to admit it, even “developed” countries such as the US have poverty stricken citizens. The poverty shown here will be even greater than you’re probably accustomed to. Starvation, sickness, and complete destitution are prevalent in these photographs. What makes these photos even sadder is that they mostly feature children as subjects. Children are absolutely the most tragic victims of poverty, so it is no wonder why these photos have such great impact.
